Winchester Introduces Varmint X in Lead Free

You already know that Winchester is a leader in innovation. They go above and beyond to provide ammunition for hunters with the best technology, accuracy and value for the species they are pursuing.

An incredible amount of research and development is put into creating products that put we hunters at the top of our game. This goes for everything from Deer Season XP to Longbeard XR to Varmint X, but it doesn’t stop there. Let’s take Varmint X for example.

With the growing number of predator hunters around the country, this is a round that has been welcomed with open arms. I was raised in a family where this was the go to activity during all the winter months. Whether it was snowshoeing across fields to find the perfect set, or sitting with my dad on a moonlit night, predator hunting was our winter activity. As a young girl, my reasons for getting into it may have differed from some, but the increase in the coyote population was obvious. We lived in the country and had coyotes attack our young hunting pup that barely escaped.

Everything is good when there is balance, but coyotes and other varmints can quickly get out of control if not managed. What I’ve always loved about predator hunting is not only the difficulty of the hunt, but also the steps taken after the harvest to prepare & tan the animals. To this day I am a huge fan of buying furs and try to do my part and help the fur industry which also helps keep everything in balance. In fact, I recently even bought my pup Pork Chop a skunk fur coat to keep her warm and match my skunk gloves and hat too

So back to Varmint X – what makes this so great? Well it’s offered in a wide variety of popular calibers. The polymer tip works amazing at long ranges due to its higher ballistics coefficients compared to your typical hollow point varmint bullets. Not only do you get incredible accuracy, but upon impact it provides devastating terminal performance while maintaining minimal pelt damage. This is a great balance that every person trying to save pelts is looking for. Great knockdown power without destroying the fur.

Winchester hit the nail on the head with this round and provided exactly what predator hunters have always needed, however things are constantly changing. With the growing number of predators this also means new areas to hunt them, especially out west where requirements have been put in place for lead free bullets. So of course, Winchester has answered with three new additions to their Varmint X line in Lead Free. This will allow hunters in these areas to still get all the benefits of Varmint X and Winchester’s innovation, but now in a lead free option.

This year Winchester launched the Varmint X Lead free in 22-250 Rem, 223 Rem, and 243 Win calibers. So how did they do this and what are they using? The Varmint X Lead free features zinc core technology in the bullet. This offers a more affordable lead free option for hunters around the country. So, regardless of where in the country you live, get out there and put in a little time predator hunting. Not only can it be a lot of fun, but you’ll be doing your part to keep the numbers in check. Take some time to head out the range or into the field, and find out why the love of predator hunting continues to take off around the country.
